Location: Indianapolis, Indiana

The nucleus of Mayer Fabrics, the Sales Service Department is responsible for daily customer contact and sales support. Each individual Sales Service Representative has a dedicated regional sales territory but is expected to assist all Mayer Fabrics customers and/or sales representatives as needed. These skilled individuals play a pivotal role in providing customers and sales representatives with product information, pricing, stock, specifications, and sample requests.


  • Order Entry - Accurately process customer orders received via email, phone, or fax. Maintain responsibility and awareness of order from entry through shipping.

  • Backorders - Effectively communicate information to Purchasing Department for processing. Update customer with expected ship date and again upon receipt of goods.

  • Sample Entry - Accurately process sample orders as requested by customers or sales representatives. Most sample requests that arrive by 3:00 PM are expected to ship the same day.

  • Provide detailed stock information, lead times, and pricing to customers and sales representatives.

  • Assist customers with product information, specifications, and/or alternates for re-selection.

  • Communicate with Sales Representatives regarding project information, customer issues, or delayed orders.

  • Embrace Mayer Fabrics product line, including recognition of popular patterns, understanding of individual binders, general knowledge of finishes, uses, etc.

  • Develop rapport with customers and Mayer Fabrics' Sales Representatives to grow companywide customer base.


  • Exceptional oral and written communication. Clear communication is essential in customer service.

  • Positive Attitude. A positive attitude combined with a general knowledge of the Mayer Fabrics product line will win customer’s trust and keep them coming back.

  • Self-Control. It is important to remain calm and keep a kind voice, even in the most negative situations.

  • Enthusiastic learner, accuracy, attention to detail, and exceptional organizational skills.

  • Deliver high-quality output when working in a fast-paced environment and handling multiple projects simultaneously.

  • Shows initiative and problem-solving abilities.

  • Team player who is self-motivated, extroverted, optimistic, determined, and goal driven.

  • Design, Color, Architecture, and/or Furniture knowledge preferred.
